A Brief History of the C.O.G. (with links and scripts!) In Reverse Chrono-Illogical Order: 1993-2001

29th Lecture - "Cowboys of Genius vs. the BBQ Sauce of Death"
Friday night, December 29th, 2000 - The Howlin' Wolf

Opening for Mojo Nixon
behind the scenes snapshot by Jeannine

Songs: Green Slime / Death to the Angel of Death / It's Morally Wrong / March of the Skeletons / Black Plague / Free Bird / M.I.L.K. / Now You're a Man / Android Woman / I Scream

When Filbert stole a can of deadly barbecue sauce from a crashed flying saucer, the C.O.G., disguised as the Cowboys of Genius, evaded the wrathful aliens... until Filbert let his guard down and was abducted!

28th Lecture - "Pinkerton For President part II"
Saturday night, November 18th, 2000 - Exoticon 3

Opening acts: Shanni Sane?, Antarctica vs. The World, and Geniuses of Destruction
photos by Chad Gould

Songs: Bow 2 Me / I Scream / So Confuse / It's Morally Wrong / Black Plague / Android Woman / Brain Wrap / Bite Me / Death to the Angel of Death / M.I.L.K. / March of the Skeletons / All I Wanna Do Is You

Last minute preparations payed off well as we rocked Exoticon and were subsequently slaughtered by the mad maniacs of Antarctica vs. the World! This show made us new friends and fans, and provided a second chance to those who missed our previous weekend's triumph...

27th Lecture - "Pinkerton For President"
Saturday night, November 11th, 2000 - The Howlin' Wolf

Opening acts: Villa Diodati and Antarctica vs. The World
photos by ? video by Jim Fairchild

Songs: Bow 2 Me / I Scream / So Confuse / It's Morally Wrong / Black Plague / Android Woman / Brain Wrap / Bite Me / Death to the Angel of Death / M.I.L.K. / March of the Skeletons / All I Wanna Do Is You / Science Party / LoBoToMy / Now You're a Man

Pinkerton's campaign for president, announced four days after the election, necessitated a trip back in time to the year 1999 (a trick the Democrats and Republicans have not yet figured out how to do - thank C.O.G.) Biggest crowd yet, thanks to heavy promotion and good word of mouth. A great night despite many small technical hitches.

'Free Brains & Dead Bodies' CD
completed November 2000

26th Lecture - "C.O.G. vs. the Gutterpunks"
Monday night, August 21st, 2000 - The House of Blues (Parish Room)

Opening for the Bullies
video (fixed)

Songs: Bow 2 Me / M.I.L.K. / March of the Skeletons / Bite Me / I Scream / Death to the Angel of Death / It's Morally Wrong

Efforts by the Consortium of Genius to rid itself of the gutterpunks landed them in hot water with both Death and the Evil One... which in turn landed Pinkerton and Pentatonic in HELL!

'C.O.G.: Dangerous Geniuses At Large!' video
completed June 2000

25th Lecture - "C.O.G. vs. Fil-Bot"
Friday night, May 12th, 2000 - The Howlin' Wolf

Opening for Supagroup
photos by Steve Leblanc video by Jude Oliver

Songs: Bow 2 Me / It's Morally Wrong / Science Party / Android Woman / March of the Skeletons / LoBoToMy / Bite Me / I Scream / Death to the Angel of Death / Now You're a Man / Green Slime

An almost flawless performance by Filbert left Pinkerton & Pentatonic scratching their heads... until it was revealed that Filbert had substituted an android in his place and stayed at the lab to play Dungeons and Dragons and watch Star Trek! We took care of that little problem with the transporter...

24th Lecture - "The Miseducation of Filbert Snodgrass 2"
Thursday night, January 6th, 2000 - The Howlin' Wolf

Opening acts: Retox and Overtone
video by Jeannine Flores & Steve Leblanc

A large, appreciative crowd (over 100 people on a Thursday night) left a strong impression on both the newbies and the club staff! Even Sean Yseult, bassist for White Zombie, was impressed but proved resistant to Filbert's attempts to ask her out.

23rd Lecture - "The Miseducation of Filbert Snodgrass"
Saturday night, November 13th, 1999 - The Howlin' Wolf

Opening acts: Bill Dykes and friends (Music & Comedy Night)
video by Chris Enyart

Best show yet... our musical science comedy steamrolled the standup comedy!
Unbelievably good performaces and a night to remember.

Special Appearance
Sunday night, October 31st, 1999
Gallier Hall

Dark Cotillion Goth Party
Song: Bite Me
Brief appearance following Igor Kitty was intended to annoy goth people and promote our show on the 13th. Strangely, several goths didn't get it at first and enjoyed the music... until they caught the lyrics!

22nd Lecture - "First Annual Filbert Snodgrass Celebrity Marathon Telethon"
Sunday night, September 5th, 1999 - The Howlin' Wolf

MDA Benefit
video by Greg and Jude Oliver

Songs: Brain Wrap / LoBoToMy / Bow 2 Me / Death to the Angel of Death / Android Woman / M.I.L.K. / March of the Skeletons / Lovekill / Science Party / Bite Me

Short, tight set, extended unexpectedly by two songs... and we got on the news!

Poor quality mix by the club staff failed to ruin a fun time for all as we took on Zarglar one more time...

'C.O.G. Infomercial II' video
completed June 1999

20th Lecture - "C.O.G. vs. the Wrath of Zarglar"
Saturday night, May 29th, 1999 - Jimmy's Music Club

Opening act: The Disco Bombs
photos by Amy Enyart, video by Jeannine Flores and Lewis D'Aubin

Songs: Bow 2 Me / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Science Party / M.I.L.K. / March of the Skeletons / Bite Me / It's Morally Wrong / Free Bird / Brain Wrap / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Death to the Angel of Death / LoBoToMy / Green Slime

Our plans to take over the world were very nearly thwarted by Zarglar, an alien irritant from the Galactic League of Ultimate Evil, who intended to take over the C.O.G.! Lucky for us the Juice-O-Tron was handy... Mixed by Mike Martin.

19th Lecture - "C.O.G. vs. Igor Kitty"
Friday night, May 14th, 1999 - Jimmy's Music Club

Opening for Falling Janus
no photos, video by Jeannine Flores.

Songs: Bow 2 Me / M.I.L.K. / March of the Skeletons / LoBoToMy / Brain Wrap / Science Party / Bite Me / It's Morally Wrong / Death to the Angel of Death / Black Plague

A one night conquest of the evil world of Goth. Also, Igor Kitty's best attempt yet to destroy the C.O.G.! Mixed by Mike Martin.

18th Lecture - "In Search of... Dr. Wissenschaft"
Friday night, March 12th, 1999 - Movie Pitchers

Opening act: Angel Dust
no photos, video by Chris Enyart

Songs: Dance or Die / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / M.I.L.K. / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Science Party / Green Slime / LoBoToMy / It's Morally Wrong / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death / Die Barney Die / Rabbid

Mobster Dr. A Pentatonic shoots his way onto the scene, dispensing with Dr. Wissenschaft, and then, trying to kill Dr. Pinkerton and take over the C.O.G.! Incredible, flawless show... premiere of Dr. A. Pentatonic

17th Lecture
Friday night, October 2nd, 1998 - Jimmy's Music Club

Opening for Igor Kitty
photos, video

Songs: Science Party / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Brain Wrap / All I Wanna Do Is You

Potentially strong show mangled by the sudden unexpected absence of Dr. Wissenschaft. Also featured an early unexpected appearance by Dr. A. Pentatonic! Dr. Wissenschaft's last show.

16th Lecture - "The World's Largest Guitar"
Thursday night, September 3rd, 1998 - DragonCon ' 98

photos by Jeannine Floresfixed video

Songs: Science Party / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Brain Wrap / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Green Slime / M.I.L.K. / LoBoToMy / It's Morally Wrong / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death/Die Barney Die

Dr. Pinkerton attempts to create the loudest sound in the universe by crashing an alien spaceship into the World's Largest Guitar, constructed in orbit around Saturn. Excellent show delivered to an understandably dazed and confused Atlanta audience.

15th Lecture
Thursday night, August 20th, 1998 - Jimmy's Music Club

Opening for Willem McCormick Band
no photos, good video

Songs: Science Party / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Brain Wrap / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Green Slime / M.I.L.K. / It's Morally Wrong / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death

New songs, new video projector, new script. Though cut short by one song, this was probably the best lecture delivered to date by the C.O.G.

14th Lecture - "C.O.G. vs. New Orleans Worst Film Festival"
Saturday night, May 23th, 1998 - New Orleans Worst Film Festival

photos, no video

Songs: Science Party / All I Wanna Do Is You / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Brain Wrap / Green Slime / Death to the Angel of Death / LoBoToMy / Die Barney Die

Special appearances by the Consortium of Genius made this year's Worst Film Festival a day to remember. A custom script provided many hilarious moments as Dr. Pinkerton and the Consortium continued to distrupt the festival with horrible experiments and music. This show was our test bed for future appearances on larger stages.

13th Lecture
Friday night, March 20th, 1998 - Movie Pitchers

Opening act: Igor Kitty
no photos, no video (thank Gawd!)

Songs: Science Party / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You (full version) / So Confuse / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / Green Slime / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death

Numerous technical problems caused show, which began extrememly late, to lurch to a halt several times. In the end, though, many in the crowd said it was their favorite show, probably due to many special new bits including the return of Dr. Smerlington, who engaged in a tense Kung Fu battle with Filbert Snodgrass for bass supremacy!

12th Lecture - "Spice-World Must Be Destroyed!"
Saturday night, February 7th, 1998 - Checkpoint Charlie's

Opening act: Lunch
photos, no video

Songs: Science Party / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You (full version) / So Confuse / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / Green Slime / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death / Rabbid

A very good night, begun by destroying Spice World! Great crowd response, especially for songs about death and destruction! Ended night by destroying Jason's keyboard stand!

11th Lecture
Friday night, December 5th, 1997 - Checkpoint Charlie's

Opening acts: Converts, Igor Kitty
photos?, no video

Songs: Science Party / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You (full version) / So Confuse / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / Green Slime / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death / Rabbid

Problems early on when the video computer was plugged into a plug miswired for 240V! Despite lack of video, a strong night, with great performances all around, and good crowd response, particularly to the new material. Set it and forget it mix, contributing to feedback problems. We lost money due to computer damage and parking tickets, but in the end, nobody seemed to mind.

10th Lecture
Friday night, October 17th, 1997 - The Audubon Tavern

Opening act: Igor Kitty
photos by Amy, no video

Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / Lovekill / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons

Krazy night. Power problems early on, followed by problems with the club personnel later - the club's fey, German D.J. attempted to drown out our music, then halted the show - Filbert responded by kicking in the bastard's door! Nevertheless, we made more profit than at any previous show.

Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / Lovekill / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death / Rabbid

Even better performance than last time. It rained outside while we reigned inside. Even smaller crowd than last time. Mixed by Spike. First attempt to split the audio output feeds to main mixer into rhythm/synth-samples. As a consequence, samples were mixed in too low.

8th Lecture
Wednesday night, August 20th, 1997 - Jimmy's Music Club

Opening act: Six Demon Bag

Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / LoveKill / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Black Plague / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death / Rabbid

Songs: LoveKill / Dance or Die / All I Wanna Do Is You / So Confuse / Krazed Archer / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death / Rabbid

'C.O.G. Infomercial' video
completed April 1997

4th Lecture
Saturday night, December 21st, 1996 - Daiquiri Island

Opening for Shudderpulp
photos by Jude, no video

Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / LoveKill / Dance or Die / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death

Video camera was plugged into a bad outlet so no video. Show was well received despite the questionable venue! Mixed by Mike Martin.

3rd Lecture
Friday night, November 8th, 1996 - Crystal Plantation

Opening acts: Lunch, Kwazi Moto
no photos, one camera handheld video

Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / LoveKill / Dance or Die / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death

Let into the venue real late, setup during Lunch and Kwazi Moto. Power failure during "Dance or Die." Small crowd but well received performance. Videotape came out really well. Show mixed by Mike Martin.

2nd Lecture
Saturday night, November 2nd, 1996 - Checkpoint Charlie's

Opening act: Kwazi Moto
photos?, no video
Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / LoveKill / Dance or Die / Hey You / Brain Wrap / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons / Death to the Angel of Death

Forgot to press record to videotape show. Can't believe we fit all that onto that little stage! Drumbot's first performance. Red stage light almost caught on fire. Dancing around pool table to "Brain Wrap." Strong, positive audience reaction to C.O.G. Show mixed by Mike Martin.

1st Lecture - "Enter - the C.O.G.!"
Saturday night, June 29th, 1996 - New Orleans Science Fiction & Fantasy Festival 1996

Opening for Garaj Mahal
photos? (There were photos snapped by somebody), video? (I remember somebody was taping parts of it)
Songs: Ode on a Mass Spectrometer / LoveKill / Dance or Die / Hey You / Krazed Archer / Free Bird / LoBoToMy / March of the Skeletons

No tape to videotape show; photos available? "Where's Lewis?!!?" Numerous technical glitches. "Damn you, Bill Gates!" Entire show served off Amiga 3000, running Cakewalk 3 on 25Mhz 386sx bridgeboard. Drumbot AWOL, just barely not ready in time.

'Songs of Violence & Stupidity' cassette
completed September 1993
